Chorizo and Lentil Soup

To be fair, I made this with regular sausage instead of chorizo.  It was OK... the kids did not eat it though.  And I thought it would be better than it was.

1 lb Chorizo sausage
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1 small red onion, chopped
2 cups broth
1 1/2 cups green lentils
1 10 oz can Rotel tomatoes with green chiles
salt and pepper, to taste
1. In a large saucepan, brown the chorizo sausage with the crushed garlic and chopped onion.  Drain and return to the saucepan.  Add the broth, green lentils, Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies and some crushed red pepper if you can take the heat.
2. Bring to a rolling boil, then reduce heat and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the lentils have cooked.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.
