Smoor Tomatoes and Onions

2 tbs vegetable oil
1 lg onion, thinly sliced
2 large ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded and coarse chopped
1 sm. green jalapeno, minced
1 tbs sugar, or to taste
1. Heat oil and cook onion slices over medium heat for 5 minutes, until soft and slightly brown.  Add tomatoes, chile and cook over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure flavors mix.
