Coltayin Roots with Terrellian Spices

  • Currently 4/5
When the image of Anna prepared coltayin roots for the marooned Captain Picard, she mixed the tuber-like vegetation with Terellian spices.  Here, we don't have Terellian spices, much less coltayin roots, so I have to make do.
1 sweet potato yam, peeled
water for boiling
1 Tbs butter
1 tspn allspice
1. Cut sweet potato into 1/3" thick rounds
2. Put in pot and cover with water
3. Boil until potatoes are soft, but still will keep their round shapes and not break up
4. Drain, divide into 2 portions and put on plates
5. Smear butter on top, then sprinkle the allspice.  Serve.

Origin: Modified from The Star Trek Cookbook

The original virtue of coltayin roots was their nutritional value.  These things could feed an army of Jem'Hadar, if those guys ate anything other than their "white".  The closest equivalent to coltayin roots on Earth are yams, which can also feed a small army.
