My mother's wonderful stove-top cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup cocoa
1 can milk, canned
2 cups sugar, white
2 cups oats, quick/instant cook
1 cup peanut butter
1 tspn vanilla
1. Place about 2 cookie-sheet sized aluminum foil pieces on counter top.
2. Melt butter over medium heat in medium saucepan
3. Add cocoa and stir well
4. Add milk and stir well.  Wait about 1 minute for mixture to heat up again, stirring occasionally.
5. Add sugar.  Stir constantly until mixture comes to a boil.
6. Boil steadily for about 5 minutes, or until mixture becomes a "soft ball".   You can check the hardness of the candy by dropping a small bit into a clear glass with cold water. The mixture will form a soft ball when rolled around.
7. Remove from heat, and quickly add oats and peanut butter, stirring fast.
8. Add vanilla and mix
9. Drop cookie-sized drops onto foil
10. Allow to cool about 1 hour before enjoying.

The hardest part is allowing the mixture to boil long enough to get a soft ball, and not too hard so it gets brittle. If you have a candy thermometer it will show the "soft ball" stage.

Make sure you use quick cook/instant oats, otherwise it won't be cooked properly.
