because i'm so unsophisticated and like girly drinks. admittedly, i heard the Feist/Ron Sexsmith song and had to find out what a Brandy Alexander was.

alternative to the shaken-not-stirred method. yes, i know blaspheme...but it's so good. besides, Brandy Alexanders are a variation of the Alexander cocktail which used gin instead of brandy so consider this another variation.

yields:
6 (3 oz.) drinks
Ingredients
3 oz (90 mL) brandy
3 oz (90 mL) dark crème de cacao (or other chocolate liqueur)
1 c crushed ice
1 1/2 c vanilla ice cream
nutmeg, to garnish
special equipment
blender
long-stemmed cocktail glasses like for martinis

Directions
1. whiz all ingredients in blender until slushie.
2. serve in coctail glasses with nutmeg sprinkled on top.

Notes:
has less proportion of alcohol to cream than the original Brandy Alexander so even more like a milkshake (as John Lennon referred to during his "lost weekend"). adjust according to your taste.

possibly sub a coffe liqueur like Kahlúa for the chocolate liqueur and get a coffee kick. switch out the brandy for the vodka and you've got a White Russian...but that's just something completely different.

trivia: January 31 is Brandy Alexander day
