Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

Great pecan pie tast in a bar cookie.

Ingredients
Crust
3 cups unsifted flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 tsp salt
Filling
1 1/2 cups light or dark corn syrup
6 (1-oz) squares semi-sweet baking chocolate
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups chopped pecans
 
Directions
1. Crust:  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray bottom and sides of 15 x 10 x 1" pan.  In large bowl, with electric mixer, beat flour, 1/2 cup sugar, butter, and salt until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; press firmly and evenly into pan.  Bake for 20 minutes.
2. Filling:  In large saucepan, stir corn syrup and chocolate over low heat just until melted.  Remove from heat.  Stir in  sugar, eggs and vanilla until blended.  Stir in pecans.  Pour filling over hot crust; spread evenly.  Bake for 30 minutes, or until filling is firm around edges and slightly soft in center.  Cool in pan on wire rack.
