French Toast Casserole

An easy make - ahead weekend Brunch recipe....
1-1/2 sticks butter
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 lb loaf white bread, firm
6 eggs
2 cups milk
Maple syrup
Fresh fruit
1. Melt butter, add brown sugar and cinnamon and stir until combined.  Spread over bottom of a 9 x 13" casserole. 
2. Remove crusts from bread.  Fill in casserole with 2 layers of bread, filling in sides and ends with smaller pieces. 
3. Beat together eggs and milk.  Pour over top of bread.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.  Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Cut into squares, spooning syrupy mixture over top when serving. 
4. Serve with additional syrup and fresh fruit if you like.....
