Turtle Pie

We have "birthday pies" instead of birthday cakes at our house, and this is one of my family's most-requested pies.
2 cups pecans
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
Caramel Layer
1 pkg (14-oz) Kraft caramels
1/3 cup whipping cream
1 cup pecans, chopped
Chocolate Layer
1 pkg (8 squares) semi - sweet baking chocolate
1/3 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
10 pecan halves
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Place pecans in food processor; process until finely ground, using pulsing action.  Add sugar and melted butter, pulsing to combine.  Press into a 9" pie plate.  Bake 12 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool completely.  (If crust puffs up during baking, gently press down with back of spoon).
2. Microwave caramels and whipping cream in microwaveable bowl in HIGH 3 minutes or until caramels are melted, stirring after each minute.  Pour into crust.  Sprinkle chopped pecans over caramel layer.
3. Place chocolate, whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla in saucepan.  Cook and stir on low heat until chocolate is melted.  Pour over caramel/pecan layer, gently spreading to cover top of pie.  Decorate top of pie with the 10 pecan halves.  Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
