Chocolate Caramel Bars

1 pkg chocolate chips
2 TBS shortening
2 TBS water
5 TBS butter
14 oz pkg caramels
1 cup chopped peanuts
1. Melt in double boiler chocolate and shortening. Stir. Remove from heat when smooth. Pour half in 8" foil lined square pan.
2. Spread evenly. Refrigerate until firm (15 minutes) Return remaining mix, low heat. Combine in double boiler caramels, butter and water. Stir till melted. Stir in nuts. Pour over chocolate. Spread evenly.
3. Refrigerate 15 minutes. Top with remaining chocolate. Spread evenly. Refrigerate 1 hour.
