Delicious Beef Strogonoff

I found this recipe online. It comes from a mountain lodge in Red River, New Mexico and it is soooooo gooood.  This one's definitely a family favorite.

Ingredients:
2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into thin slices
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, divided
2 large onions, chopped
1 (10.5 oz.) can beef broth
1 tsp. dried basil
salt and pepper to taste
1 (4.5 oz jar) sliced mushrooms, drained
1 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
1 cup sour cream
cooked rice and/or noodles
Directions:
1.
  1. Dredge meat in flour. In a skillet, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium heat; saute onions until tender. Remove from pan; set aside. Melt remaining butter and brown meat on all sides. Add broth, basil, salt and pepper, mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce and onions. Cook until mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Just before serving, stir in sour cream. Heat through, but do not boil. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
Notes:
Makes 3-4 servings, depending on your appetite.

It's nice to make both rice and noodles and let your dinner guests decide between the two....or you could be like me and have a big scoop of rice and noodles!

Honestly, you could easily reduce the amount of butter (at least by half or more) if you're  watching the calories.  I suppose you could also use EVOO if you wanted, but I love the rich flavor from the butter.
