Lotta-Fruit Oatmeal Breakfast

This makes a hearty bowl for 1-2 people, depending on your appetite.  Vary the fruit and the yogurt flavor to your taste.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
1 tsp oat bran (optional, for more fiber)
1 cup water
pinch salt
sprinkle cinnamon-and-sugar mix (optional)
1/4 cup raisins
1 banana, sliced
1 pear, peeled and cut into chunks
1 cup yogurt, like low-fat vanilla
Directions:
1. Put oatmeal, oat bran (if used), water, salt, cinnamon/sugar, and raisins in a pan and heat slowly over med-low heat, until bubbly and thick, about 5-7 minutes.  Stir occasionally.
2. Put pear chunks into oatmeal and turn off heat.  Stir.  Slice in the banana.  Mix lightly and dump into a cereal bowl.  Make a well in the top (like for gravy on potatoes) and spoon on the yogurt.  Enjoy.
Notes:
I keep cinnamon and sugar mixed in a shaker in the cupboard. You can also add a sprinkle of nutmeg, or a pinch of brown sugar. You can use more heavily flavored yogurt for a "sweeter" taste - or use plain yogurt for a tart flavor and less sugar.  If I use an apple, I let it cook with the oatmeal, to soften it up a bit for easier eating. Try peaches, nectarines, cherries, fresh pineapple chunks, mangos.  The basic recipe gives you 4 servings of fruit if you eat the whole thing yourself.  You can also use steel-cut oatmeal, but it takes much longer.  Some families cook a week's worth of steel-cut in advance and re-heat it all week.
