1. Preheat over to 350 degrees.
2. In a large saucepan at moderate heat, add yams, cover with water, and boil for 30 minutes. Allow them to cool. Melt butter.
3. In another saucepan, at low heat, add the brown sugar and water, and melt the sugar.
4. Butter an 11 x 13 baking pan. Peel yams and cut lengthwise. Lay the
yams in the pan in one layer. Spoon the melted butter over them and
then the melted brown sugar. Bake 35-45 minutes or until candied.
