Pear and Honey Oatmeal

From Everyday Food

A hot breakfast for cold days, this can be made with skim milk or soymilk. Remember to use a ripe pear - nothing worse than a hard pear.
Ingredients:
1 cup skim milk, plus more for serving (optional)
coarse salt
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
pinch ground cinnamon
1/2 pear, cored and cut into small chunks
1-3 tsp honey
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, combine milk and a pinch of salt; bring to a boil. Add oats and cinnamon; simmer, stirring occasionally, until oats are tender, about 5 minutes.
2. Place oatmeal in a bowl, top with pear chunks and honey, and serve with more milk, if desired.
