Coconut Bars

This is one my mother always used to make. I'm translating this off a photocopy of a hand-written recipe card.
Ingredients:

Crust:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour

Filling:
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablesppons flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
1. Mix the crust ingredients together. Gently spread in 8x8-inch baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
2. Cream together sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add the flour, baking powder, coconut and nuts. Mix well. Spread evenly over baked crust.
3. Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned and set.
Notes:
This is one of my all-time favorite desserts.

I substitute butter/margarine for the oil in the crust.

Don't pack the crust too tightly into the pan, or the bars will be difficult to cut and remove.
