Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Oatmeal (OAMC)

  • Currently 4/5

When making oatmeal packets in bulk, blend a cup of plain oats in a food processor until they resemble flour.  Add this to your oatmeal packets for a thicker, heartier oatmeal.

3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1 tablespoon ground oats (see suggestion above)
1 dash salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, or to taste
1 tablespoon brown sugar, or to taste
1 tablespoon chopped nuts, optional (suggestions: walnuts, pecans)
2 teaspoons sugar (I use Splenda)
1. Packaging
Combine all ingredients in a ziploc baggie.  Seal securely.
2. Microwave Preparation
Pour contents of oatmeal baggie into microwave safe bowl.  Add 1 1/2 cups water and mix well. (For thicker oatmeal, reduce water.  For creamier oatmeal, increase water.) Microwave on high for 3 minutes.  Let sit for an additional 2 minutes before serving.

Microwave cooking times vary.  You may have to adjust these instructions to meet the requirements of your microwave.
3. Stove-Top Preparation
Bring 1 1/2 cups water to a boil in a saucepan.  (For thicker oatmeal, reduce water.  For creamier oatmeal, increase water.)  Add contents of oatmeal baggie to boiling water, stir, reduce heat, and cover.  Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

This makes a "man-sized" portion. If a smaller portion is desired, adjust quantities accordingly.
