Italian Sausage Cacciatore (OAMC)

The sauce for this dish is thick and rich, so it is great served over rice or pasta. Sometimes I leave the casings on the sausage and cut them into coin-shaped pieces because I like the "snap" the casings give the sausage. Other times, I like to remove the casings completely and crumble the sausage into marble-sized pieces. It just depends on my mood that day.
Ingredients
3 links Italian sausage (mild, hot, or sweet)
1 cup prepared marinara sauce (use your favorite jarred sauce)
1/8 cup diced onion
1/8 cup diced green bell pepper
1/8 cup diced red bell pepper
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
 
Directions

2. Do not open the sausage.  Set aside.
3. In a gallon-sized Ziploc freezer bag combine the marinara sauce, onion, bell pepper, garlic, and Italian seasoning.  Seal bag securely.  Set aside.
4. Insert the sausage and sauce bag into a gallon-sized Ziploc freezer bag and seal.  With a sharpie marker, label the outside of the bag "Italian Sausage Cacciatore".
5. Place in freezer.

7. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. 
8. Cut sausage into coin-shaped pieces or remove casings and crumble into marble-sized pieces and place in heated skillet.

9. Brown sausage for 3 to 5 minutes or until done.  Drain excess grease.
10. Add sauce to sausage in skillet.  Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, adding water as needed or desired.
11. Serve over rice or pasta.
12. Makes 3 servings.  This recipe can be doubled for 6 servings.
13. Serving suggestions: Rice or pasta and steamed broccoli.
 
Notes:
For best results in quality and packaging, expel as much air from the baggies as possible.
