Student's Ragout

1/2 lbs bacon
1 lbs round steak, partially frozen and slice it thin
3 large onions, sliced
6 large carrots, sliced
6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
1. Cut bacon in half and cover the bottom of the pan. Cut meat in strips 2" long and lay on top of bacon. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Slice onions thin and place on top of meat. Peel and slice carrots on top of onions. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Slice potatoes thin and sprinkle generously with salt and a little pepper.
2. Put on med. high heat for one minute. Add 1 cup of cold water and turn low. cover and cook for 45 mins. (Bacon will look like it's not cooked, but it is)
