Curried Lentil Soup with Ham

A mild curry flavor punches up this soup.

2 cups lentils
One ham chank OR a smoked ham end OR 1 to 2 cups diced ham
1 cup chopped onion
1 bay leaf
2 ribs celery, chopped
1/2 cup diced carrots
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon of curry powder
seasoned salt and pepper, to taste
1. Combine all ingredients with 2 quarts water in the slow cooker. Cook on low, covered, 8 to 10 hours.  If you used a shank or ham end, remove it and separate the meat from the bones.  You may puree the soup if you want it smooth. Return the meat to the soup. Taste and adjust seasonings. 
First try: Sept 2008.  It was OK.  The brown lentil texture isn't my fav.  Try with French lentils that dissolve more.
