Orange Slice Cake

This recipe uses those orange slice candies to make a cake that is Pam's favorite.
Ingredients
1 lb orange slice candies
2 c nuts (unspecified)
2 sticks margarine
4 eggs
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 lb chopped dates
2 c sugar
1 1/3 c buttermilk
2 c plain flower
Icing
1 can frozen orange juice (thawed)
2 c brown sugar
 
Directions
1. Mix flour with nuts, dates, and orange slices.
2. Mix baking soda with buttermilk.
3. Cream sugar and margarine. (Eggs are not mentioned in directions, but I assume add eggs here.)
4. Combine, and bake 2 1/2 hours at 275 degrees.
5. Mix 1 can frozen orange juice (thawed) with 2 cups of brown sugar.
6. Pour over cake and allow to cool in pan.
