Holly Jolly Cutouts

Refrigerating the dough after it's cut out helps keep the edges of the shape more defined.
1 Recipe Basic Butter Cookie
Decorating icing and sprinkles
1. Form prepared dough into two 6 inch disks.  Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour or up to 3 days.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
3. Working with one disk at a time and keeping the remaining disk in the refrigerator, roll to a 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.  Cut out cookies and transfer to baking sheets.  Refrigerate baking sheets 20-30 minutes.
4. Bake 8-10 minutes.  Transfer to racks to cool completely.
5. Gather scraps and chill until firm enough to reroll.  Make additional cookies with remaining disk and scraps, but do not reroll more than once.

6. Decorate cooled cookies as desired.
